Confession Tuesday

I’m a day late. Yesterday, I spent most of the day sleeping and doing absolutely nothing. Not true. I binged on NPR programming and public television. I voted. Then I lay around contemplating how badly we’re fracking up the planet. Any of you freaked out by how we’re killing the planet? I’m telling you, the Earth is going to pay us back. Global warming and dimming is real and no amount of Neo-conservative denial is going to dismiss the reality of the atrocities we are wreaking on this planet. Honestly, we act as if we’ve got a backup planet to relocate to after we’ve completely destroyed this one.

When I was in high school, my greatest fear for the world was the nuclear threat. Who knew? We aren’t going to blow ourselves up instead the Earth is going to purge us and take a long break. Good riddance, humans.

So, I voted. Seems small after contemplating our annihilation, but while we’re here, I feel compelled to perform whatever sane, responsible acts I can. And I’m one of those civil rights babies who still believe in our right and responsibility to demand our leaders at least pretend they are listening to us so I voted.

I cleaned. Call it protracted spring-cleaning. It will take me months, but I’m determined to rid my home of my packrat ways. I want to simplify, de-clutter, free my space and mind so I’m throwing out of the mass of shyte I have collected for no other reason than I can’t seem to throw crap out.

And today I’m writing. More like rambling but it’s something. Got to. Between my reproductive systems betraying me, our politicians hoodwinking us, and us collectively killing the planet, I need to write while I can. Who said live like today is your last day? I’m convinced I need to take the adage more seriously. What say you?

I came to your site from Sunday Scribblings and because I love the flower, the Black-eyed Susan. Once here, I read and stayed because your unique voice captures the joy and angst I feel too about family, being a writer, and worrying/knowing about the environmental problems that keep on pressing our world. Keep writing.
