Don’t jingle patriotism like a trinket
dangling from your wrist;
the clanking doesn’t dissolve our cynicism
and stalling is no substitute for zest
no matter how you pull the peel.
Here's my submission for 3ww. It is unabashedly political. Admittedly poor poetry, but given the news today, it does reflect my mood. To see more submission look here.

You say what you mean. That gives you character.
Thank you, Lela. I really appreciate the compliment.
It's sad that the government has put us American people in a position where we have to actively speak about what's wrong in order for them to take even a small notice to our feelings, if at all. I think your poem is a very strong piece, Susan. It's spoken from your heart and that's the most important thing, I think. Well done. Have a nice night.
Very telling images.
Nicely done.

Love that last line! It kind of surprised me...in a good way! Not what I expected. A pleasant image (even though the subject matter isn't so nice!)
Good job -
A most apt and contemporary poem. I'm have to speak my mind here in the UK, too.
If we don't speak out in creative ways, no one hears.
Thanks Thom,
I'm one of those readers who has learned a lot from art.
I'm so glad I popped back here and read this. I like poems which say something and say it well. The form and content work together perfectly and then there's that unexpected follow on image from the zest.
I've also discovered from you that 3WW is still happening.
Carole
Yes indeed. We need to do something now. We will leave the blame discussion and poetry for later.

Awesome. I wish we could post this at every entrance to every political doorway in Washington. Great Post.
Thanks for visiting my site. I thought I would take a look around yours and really enjoyed reading your posts and your submission for 3ww. I like the fact that you speak your mind and the strength that comes through in your words. xxx Caroline
I think patriotism comes from within, not just as a campaign slogan. I hate election year, but I love your poem! Thanks for sharing it! :-)
