Rite of Passage
When she sucks her teeth and rolls her eyes,
I weigh my options: give in to that ubiquitious
urge and snatch her up by her whirling dervish neck
or bear down, refocus and restrain that natural
desire to curse her and the universe for the burden
of having given birth.

i wanted to laugh !! nice use of words :)
Sound like something that I might use in my Chronicles of Cameron, somewhwere around day 12:)
Love it!
Strong emotion here, I can so completely relate. Succinctly put.
Hi Pretty, I was hoping it would make someone laugh. I know a few moms as we like to say, can identify. lol
T, is Cameron your daughter? :-)
I am feeling you here Susan .. yes, I did laugh, but you know the truth is funny.
Brought a smile to my face. Good stuff.
Nicely done, and so short! I'm envious, since I have to always fight the desire to ramble.
Yes, Cameron is my 15 year old. She lives in New York City with her father.
Really enjoyed reading this - as a lover of poetry AND as a mom. I think I'm going to start participating in the TOP. It is so creative and looks like a lot of fun.
Universality in this one, without doubt!
Loved the way it ended..
holding on
Thanks all. Claudia, TOP is fun.
Short and to the point! I like it!
Ahh teenagers. Glad I'm not one any more. Used to teach teen bible study-never again.
Cool way to use the words.
Nice ending and use of words.
Susan,
I just sprayed tea on my screen; note to self, do not sip whilst reading B.E.S.
Great laugh.

(wet screen, though, and, fortunately, the keyboard still works.)
Oh, yes. Definitely can relate. lol What a creative use of these words!
Oh, I like this! I've been there many times! You express the frustrations of parenthood so well!
Glad you all laughed with me. Just spent the afternoon with my youngest. Today was a good day. Today she cracked me up.
With feeling! I like the sound and movement in the first line. And the "re" words which emphasise it is not for the first time.
Hi Gordon, thanks for weighing in. I need to get by your place and comment. Looking forward to reading what you're up to.
